Ajaz Qureshi Blackburn Poetry Residency

Join local poet Ajaz at our Canalside spaces in Blackburn for an immersive series of five interlinked workshops dedicated to the art of poetry through place and site-specific poetry. Each session is designed to build on the last progressively, helping participants develop their poetic skills and culminating in the creation and recording of original poems.

Wednesday 31st July 1-3pm, Canalside Activity & Environment Centre, Mill Hill, Blackburn BB2 4DD – Exploring Poetic Forms: Write in various poetic forms such as; songs, sonnets, limericks, and tanka, and engage in peer editing.

Wednesday 7th August 1-3pm, Eanam Wharf, Blackburn BB1 5BY – Editing and Collating Collections: Focus on editing and compiling poems into cohesive thematic collections.

Wednesday 14th August 1-3pm, Eanam Wharf, Blackburn BB1 5BY – Recording Final Poems: Record the final versions of your poems using provided equipment.

These poetry workshops are informal, friendly, and open to all, these workshops offer a unique opportunity to enhance your poetic skills and connect with fellow creatives, as well as enjoying the lovely features the canal has to offer.

About Ajaz:

Ajaz Qureshi is a British South Asian writer, teacher, and artist from Nelson, Lancashire. He holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature and Creative Writing, an MA in Creative Practice, and a teaching certificate, receiving distinctions. His creative practice revolves around the intersections of culture and heritage, place and community, and individual and plural identity.
