Cycling, Watersports & Walking

Cycling & watersports activity along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal

This spring & summer will see a range of cycling & watersports activity happening along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal as we introduce & develop our Super Slow Way ‘hubs’ in Blackburn, Hyndburn, Burnley & Pendle.

Cycling sessions & courses will run from our Burnley hub at UCLAN’s Victoria Mill campus, encouraging people to cycle for short journeys, leisure & fun. With the landscape of Pennine Lancashire often being hilly and more challenging for cyclists, the canal is a flat, traffic free & beautiful place to cycle for people of all abilities.

There will be a full range of courses including learn to ride, Bikeability for adults & families, cycling improvement, commuter courses, along with a sofa to saddle & basic bike maintenance. Courses will be inclusive & welcome all members of the community.

Delivered by GoVelo we want to support & encourage cycling along the canal, embedding it into everyday lives, whilst improving health, wellbeing & fitness.

Watersports activity will be delivered by Sporting NRG alongside a range of partners from Blackburn through to Pendle. With everything from taster sessions to more progressive kayaking courses, paddling days to safety & rescue training, we hope to make the canal a fun place to get active, whilst becoming confident on the water. It’s also a great opportunity to get sociable, learning in a group & getting to know new people.

All sessions are free and you can book them via eventbrite here.

In addition, we’ll be working with partners to train up a new team of paddlesport leaders who will be able to get people onto the water far beyond summer, supporting us in our vision of the canal being a popular & well used watersports destination for the people of Pennine Lancashire.
