Life Story in Sound – Paul Nataraj

Artist Paul Nataraj worked with us to produce audio portraits of people's life stories.

We worked with sound artist Paul Nataraj to produce a series of workshops where participants could learn how to use sound and music production techniques to produce an audio portrait of their life story.

Participants at these workshops were taught skills in creative sound production, including interviewing, field recording, compositional practices and sound editing, and will had the opportunity to work closely with the artist to produce a podcast of life story in sound. Everybody with any story were welcomed to the workshops!

After running the workshops in Blackburn, the shape of this project adapted so that the original intention to focus on collaboration and co-creation could be maintained. Working with a group of local creatives, the artist used sound to forge new modes of expression for them to consider their creative journey and relationship to their local environment. These are creative life stories and their reflections expanded through ‘sonification’.

The recordings that Paul Nataraj produced with collaborators are all available on our MixCloud page and were featured as part of our DRIFT Audio Exhibition in Blackburn.
