Textile Talking

Sewing and storytelling sessions with women across East Lancashire

Over the Spring of 2021 the Textile Talking groups ran on zoom, and then increasingly in person where possible. Small groups of women worked with an artist to share stories, learn stitches and respond to some of the textile collections in museums local to them including The Haworth Art Gallery in Accrington and the Gawthorpe Textile Collection. Burnley

In Accrington a group of women from Awaaz worked with artist Saima Kaur and a group from Community Solutions North West worked with artist Claire Wellesley-Smith. In Burnley artist Bev Lamey ran a group with Valley Street Textiles and in Nelson artist Emma Blackburn worked with Community Arts by ZK and a group of women from Nelson.

Some of this work was shown as part of the 2021 British Textile Biennial.
