The Exbury Egg – Stephen Turner

The Exbury Egg is a laboratory for studying the environment by artist Stephen Turner which invites us to reconsider our relationship to nature and its cycles.

The Exbury Egg is a laboratory for studying the environment by artist Stephen Turner which invites us to reconsider our relationship to nature and its cycles.

It first came to Finsley Gate Wharf in the spring of 2016 when the site was derelict and disused, and Stephen  invited local residents to spend time in The Egg to observe the nature and wildlife in the overgrown landscape over the summer and autumn that followed.

Many firm friendships were formed, and creativity flowed in the shape of oak ink drawings, poetry and photography against the backdrop of fishing, moth watching, star gazing and equinox celebrations. The local community is delighted to host The Egg once more and invite everyone to share the experience.

The Wharf now has a new lease of life but is still a precious green space which The Egg and Stephen, once again, asks us to explore, value and celebrate.

The Egg will be cared for by neighbourhood residents and Stephen will return on each successive equinox and solstice to celebrate these important seasonal moments with them.

There is an open invitation to suggest ideas for creative activities that could take place in and around the Egg. Please contact ruth@superslowway.org.uk for more information!
