‘Wild rose thrives where the castles crumble’.

Our newly commissioned mural on the canal in Hyndburn is now complete!

Over the last twelve months mural artist Gavin Renshaw has worked in collaboration with students from The Hollins to refresh the original mural along the Church stretch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal which was painted in 2000.

The ideas for the mural titled, ‘Wild rose thrives where the castles crumble’ were developed in a series of workshops at The Hollins prior to the start of the mural which was the painted over Autumn 2023 and Spring 2024. To create the design Gavin and the students considered the rise and subsequent fall of industry along the Leeds & Liverpool canal and looked at boat liveries and Brightwork associated with this key trade line.

You can find the mural on the canal towpath in Church, Accrington near our Pocket Park, alongside William Blythe.
