A lot of our activity couldn’t happen without our brilliant volunteers working behind the scenes and helping to make events happen across East Lancashire!
We’re currently looking for volunteers to get involved various Super Slow Way projects, as well as our partners event, the British Textile Biennial. Whether you can give a couple of hours or a few days your time makes a huge difference and in return hopefully you’ll gain new skills and get to know new people. The Super Slow Way Cafe at Clayton Community Centre
Location: Clayton Community Centre, Clayton-Le-Moors
Date/Time: Every Wednesday 10am-1.30pn
We are looking for two volunteers to support the Super Slow Way Cafe at Clayton Community Centre, and the activities that happen each week. We can pay travel expenses and provide snacks!
You will be located in a cafe and creative workshop space welcoming guests, answering questions, supporting the artists workshops and collecting feedback from visitors, which will develop your communication skills. It is also a great opportunity for anyone interested in gaining more experience of delivering creative sessions and to contribute to the content of our creative programme. We are happy for volunteers to attend for the full session or just an hour or so.

The Exbury Egg – Custodian Role
Location: Finsley Gate Wharf, Burnley
We have a unique opportunity for someone to look after The Exbury Egg, which is currently located at Finsley Gate Wharf in Burnley. The role would involve opening up/closing The Egg, welcoming visitors and gathering monitoring postcards. We are ideally looking for people who are confident working alone and interacting with the public.
During this time, we encourage volunteers to use the space themselves to work on any of their own creative /environmental practice. There is no electricity in The Egg but there is a wood burning stove and access to brewing up facilities. There is also at cafe and toilets on site. The times and duration of volunteering is flexible and can be adapted to suit your other commitments. The Wharf is open from 11am everyday until 7pm (closed Tuesdays) and we would like The Egg to be open for between 2 to 4 hours.

Coffee, Cake & Create – Creative Workshop Assistant
Location: Calypso, Eanam Wharf, Blackburn
Date/Time: Second & fourth Wednesday 2-4pm
Overview: To support resident artist Ian Halawi at our twice monthly Coffee, Cake & Create. This is a relaxed drop-in session offering accessible creative activity and a place to socialise. This would be well suited to someone interested in art and crafts, or who enjoys spending time with people and making them feel comfortable in a group setting. While experience of delivering workshops or group facilitation would be beneficial no experience is required, just a willingness to be a friendly welcoming face ready to chat on behalf of Super Slow Way. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered, along with a brew!
Audley Gardening Club – Gardening Club Assistant
Location: Higher Audley, Blackburn
Date/Time: Wednesdays from 10am-12pm, commencing 2025
Overview: To support Community Caretaker Ian Halawi in the running of our regular Gardening Club. This is a relaxed drop-in session in which participants support the upkeep and development of the green space. This would be well suited to someone with a keen interest in gardening, nature, plants, or the outdoors. No experience is required although at times the role may be physically demanding.
Reasonable travel expenses will be covered, along with light refreshments.
Lomeshaye Park Pop Up Assistant
Location: Lomeshaye Park, Nelson
Various activities/dates/times
Overview: To support our Community Producer and Community Caretaker in a range of tasks related to delivering a programme of activity from our Lomeshaye Park Pop Up Structure. This could involve general upkeep of the space, assisting at events from pre to post production, and generally being a friendly welcoming face to people accessing the space. This role can be adapted to an individual’s interests and may recruit a number of volunteers for different tasks. Due to the hyper local location of the pop up we would require people with good knowledge of the local area and community. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered, along with light refreshments.
