US artist Suzanne Lacy, in collaboration with Super Slow Way and In-Situ, is holding a huge banquet in the former Smith & Nephews Mill in Brierfield to celebrate the mill's history and look to its future.
Suzanne, a pioneer of public art and social practise, is inviting members of the local community to an all-day event on Saturday 1st October, that includes filming for television, a spirited sing-along, a Sufi chanting experience and a community in dialogue about the future of Pendle, ending with a catered banquet for the first 500 people who register.
Once one of the largest employers in the area, the mill is about to be transformed into a mix of uses. This artwork with Suzanne Lacy celebrates its history and the people who worked there, as we reflect on how the community might now shape its own future.
Led by the Pendle Community Cohesion Action Network and artists from the Brierfield group In- Situ, the event will feature musical entertainment, videos of local residents, and an opportunity to share family histories, cultures and conversation over food.
Registration is essential. After you register, your personal invitation will be sent by post that will contain all the details you will need to attend. If you are registering for others, we will need their names and addresses too. There will be a waiting list for people outside of the Pendle area if they would also like to register their interest.
