Beyond Labels places importance on a sense of identity. The young men involved, from diverse cultural backgrounds, were given the opportunity to express their thoughts, feelings, hopes and aspirations through different media, ultimately producing a touring exhibition of words, imagery, film and music. The Beyond Labels concept was been developed and facilitated by The Hollins in Accrington and began as a project with young girls, seeking to challenge perceptions of female identity and work towards empowerment and positive self-image.

For its second year the project tackled issues of identity in young men, expanding its scope through Super Slow Way’s support and enabling the group to work with established artists.

As well as the Educate Award the team also received the prestigious Diana Award on Thursday 9th November, awarded to young people who are transforming the lives of others, as well the SLYNCS Award 2017 (Artist of the year category) and and  ‘IntoFilm’ – film of month competition December 2016.
