Artist Stephen Turner returns for a Heritage Open Day at Finsley Gate Wharf

We’ve very pleased to be welcoming back The Eggman, Stephen Turner for a Heritage Open Day on Finsley Gate Wharf on Sunday 9th September. Stephen will be exploring and chatting about the site with visitors alongside a host of free family activities including canoeing and the return of the Hard Hat cinema.

With its collection of Grade II listed buildings Finsley Gate reopens for one day to welcome visitors to explore this historic Canal & River Trust site in Burnley Wood and see future plans for the wharf which is due to reopen to the public in the Summer of 2019.

Other activities include:

  • The return of ‘The Eggman’ – artist Stephen Turner who lived and worked at Finsley Gate Wharf with ‘The Egg’ in 2016, comes back to explore and chat about the site with visitors. Along with photographer Sam Walsh, Stephen would like to hear your stories and see any photos or other memorabilia you have about the site for a new Finsley Gate Wharf Archive currently in development.
  • The return of the Hard Hat Cinemashowing a series of short films about Finsley Gate featuring local people and made during Stephen Turner’s time at the Egg with additional archive footage by Sam Hanna of Boatbuilding at Finsley Gate and Slipper Making at Lambert Howarth.
  • Free fishing taster sessions with ‘Lets Fish’.
  • Canoeing on the Leeds & Liverpool canal, courtesy of The Desmond Family Canoe Trail.

Refreshments and toilet facilities will all be available.

Access: As this site is in pre development stages and by the canal sensible footwear is advisable. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
